Our amazing mom, Jackie Hirsh, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March of 2022. Though she was unlucky to have been diagnosed with this stealth cancer, she was incredibly lucky that it was found early-before any symptoms developed. That June, Jackie underwent one of the most complex, difficult surgeries out there, known as a Whipple procedure, performed by the exceptional Dr. Malcolm Bilimoria and his team at Northwest Community Hospital.  She also received chemotherapy both before and after her surgery with the help of her phenomenal team from the Oncology Department at the Kellogg Center in Evanston.  It was a grueling ten months for our mother, to say the least! 

Due to her outstanding care and her unshakeable will, at present Jackie is back to her old self--exercising daily, playing tennis, cooking fabulous meals, volunteering, etc.  We are beyond thankful for every moment we have with her and now hope to make a difference in the lives of others affected by pancreatic cancer.

As a family, we’ve decided to join the PanCAN Purple Stride walk to end pancreatic cancer, on Saturday, April 27, 2024. By taking “these steps” we are raising money to fund vital research that can bring new, life-saving treatment options to patients; bring free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and much more.
