I’m Laurie Buffett McGuane and welcome to my PanCAN PurpleStride page for Team Lala’s Lopers (that’s what my grandkids call me!). I’m a nearly four-year pancreatic cancer survivor and want to raise funds and awareness to end this awful disease.

My inspiration during treatment was big brother, who was fighting cancer himself. To me, he was the older sibling who looked out for me growing up, but you may know him as the amazing singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett.

During our cancer treatments, Jimmy and I were each other’s backup. He had a deeper understanding of what I was going through and vice versa. We talked and talked, and his victories were mine and mine were his.

Sadly, we lost Jimmy in September 2023, but he continues to inspire me every day and I hope his positive outlook on life inspires you to join my team and take steps to end pancreatic cancer.

I’m incredibly grateful to have the gift of time and cherish the moments I spend with my loving husband, Tom, my children, grandchildren, sister, nieces and nephew. I want everyone affected by pancreatic cancer to have more time with loved ones, and participating in PurpleStride is how we accomplish that.
