Dear family and friends,

In January of 2020, our lives forever changed when my mom, Davette Shea, was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. We had no prior history of cancer in our family and had only seen some very subtle signs that something wasn't right. My mother's 50-year nursing career made her a relentless advocate for herself and her health, yet it still took us nearly 5 months to figure out why she wasn't feeling well. We must do better for patients and in honor of those we have lost, like my mom. Her battle with cancer lasted for a year and a half and ultimately took my mom from us. We miss her every single day.

It has been almost 2.5 years without my mom. She was the light of our lives, had the most incredible laugh and smile, and was a dear and true friend to many. Life is not the same without her and as my dad, my brother and I continue to learn how to live without her, one thing remains true- we will always fight for a cure in her honor and we will always hope for a world where Pancreatic Cancer does not exist. No one should have to say goodbye to their loved ones in this way, so we pray for a cure for this vicious disease. We know prayer must also be followed with action, which is why we’re taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

The PurpleStride walk is an annual event which helps to raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.
