PanCAN has become a huge part of my life, although a painful reminder because at just 50 years young, my sweet Momma, Cyndi lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on December 7, 2021. After experiencing some vague symptoms (nausea & gastrointestinal upset), she had a CT scan that showed a pancreatic mass with liver metastasis and was diagnosed in August of 2021 with advanced stage IV pancreatic hepatoid carcinoma, a type of pancreatic cancer so rare, it didn't even have a proper diagnostic name.

After seeking two oncology opinions, both agreed to trial aggressive chemo which left her frail and cachectic. I was fortunate enough to be able to move back home in August to maximize the quality time we had left with her and care for her as she transitioned into hospice just 4 months later. We watched as this disease process and chemo took her livelihood, though her unveiling strength always prevailed, as she had a smile on her face, daily. She fought so hard but ultimately succumbed to this vicious disease. This is why I stride, not only to keep her memory alive but to help advocate for other patients and families. 

All proceeds go toward clinical trials and research, in hopes of reaching our ultimate goal of ending pancreatic cancer and being able to detect it much earlier than what is a common theme of this being discovered in late stages to prevent from claiming yet another precious life.
