“Why should you care about Pancreatic Cancer if you don’t know anybody who has it”?

“Because at one point, neither did we.”

Previously known as Teams “Working on a Cure”- Chicago and “Lulu’s Army”- Michigan, we are walking as Team "Love, Lindsay" on April 27th, 2024 for PanCan Purple Stride in honor of our family member and friend, Lindsay Gavin. Lindsay was a beautiful wife, incredible mother to two little girls, devoted daughter, loving sister, obsessed aunt, pediatric nurse, and to so many, the best friend. In 2023, Lindsay courageously battled Pancreatic Cancer, all while smiling, laughing and being spicy along the way. During her battle, Team "Working on a Cure” raised an incredible $39,000 for those fighting Pancreatic cancer at Purple Stride 2023. Lindsay was a part of the day, toting a purple tutu and PanCan Queen hat, alongside her husband, daughters and over 70 family and friends. We laughed, we cried, we walked, we danced, and we loved on Lindsay. Unfortunately, only 4 months later we were all gathered together again, when the selfish disease took her from us after a quick and courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 41.

Throughout her fight, Lindsay was surrounded by her friends, co-workers and family. As Lindsay’s thank you to everyone who showed up for her in numerous ways; (buddies for chemo, helping with her girls, sending meals, providing emotional and mental support and helping with the move to a new home just to name a few), this year’s pancreatic cancer walk team name is Love, Lindsay. If you knew Lindsay, you know she cared deeply for others and was incredibly generous in every way possible. Together, across two states, Team “Love, Lindsay” will continue to support those with Pancreatic Cancer- just as Lindsay would have wanted.

While we sorely wish Lindsay could join us again for PanCan Purple Stride 2024, there is no doubt we will feel her presence. This is our time to continue Lindsay’s legacy, and to pay it forward in her honor. As difficult as it is to continue without her, it is so important to continue supporting PanCan for everyone else who has also been or will be blindsided by this disease. Unfortunately, pancreatic cancer is very aggressive and survival rates are low (13% for 5-year survival), This is a statistic that must change, and can only change with increased awareness, donations, and funding through organizations like PanCan. PanCan’s vision is creating a world where all pancreatic cancer patients can/will thrive. Supporting Pancan helps to advance scientific research, patient services, clinical trials, advocate for patients, early detection and sharing the latest knowledge.  PanCan supports patients’ families, including Lindsay’s, so they don’t have to navigate on their own. Whether you join us to walk in her honor, or donate $1 or $1,000, you will be impacting those fighting this selfish disease and Team “Love, Lindsay” can’t thank you enough...

“Words cannot express the gratitude that Brian, the girls and myself have for each and every one of you, Michigan and Chicago! I’m so lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful, generous, loving people! THANK YOU all from the bottom of my heart for loving us and supporting us and for being OUR TRIBE, we love you all! #F***Cancer"
