"We lost our beloved Jack Mott to pancreatic cancer in 2020 after a ten-month battle. He was our husband, father, brother, son, and an amazing friend to so many. Jack was diagnosed in November 2019 after several weeks of abdominal pain and discomfort. Initially doctors thought it was simply constipation, but finally a CT scan revealed a stage 4 tumor that we later found out had metastasized to many places. Jack was a fighter and was determined to beat it. He was treated locally for chemo, but all major procedures and decisions were made with Dr. Daniel Laheru at John’s Hopkins. About four months into treatment, we learned through a liver biopsy that Jack had a rare genetic profile which made him eligible for immunotherapy with Keytruda. After several rounds of Keytruda we were heartbroken to realize that not only was it not helping with the cancer, but the side effects were making it impossible for Jack to fight back. We lost our battle on September 26th, 2020. Jack was loved immensely by all who knew him, and we miss him every day. We will continue to honor him in the ways that best highlight his life. We believe that progress toward early detection is most critical to truly make an impact on this terrible disease."
