LET'S PURPLESTRIDE AGAIN!

Team Last Man Standing will be walking to help put an end to pancreatic cancer during PURPLESTRIDE IOWA at Raccoon River Park in West Des Moines on Saturday, April 27.

Last year, thanks to all who supported my team during the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Network annual fundraiser, we raised a lot of money for this good cause.

I am grateful and am still so humbled by it all.

But that was then. I was right in the middle of chemotherapy to ward off any lingering bits of that killer disease.

But this year, I'm cancer free and have vowed to continue the fight for everyone touched by pancreatic cancer: patients, family, friends and casual acquaintances.

I'd love your help.

Cancer doesn't always win. I'm living proof.

My team, Last Man Standing, is aptly named. I am the last one standing in my immediate family. Pancreatic cancer killed my grandmother; at least two of her sisters; my mother; her twin sister and their brother; and my brother.

And then it was my turn. I was diagnosed with it in October, 2021 and had surgery 10 days later followed by 12 rounds of chemotherapy for the knock out punch.

In October, 2022, I was found to be absolutely cancer free.

I fought like hell to remain the last man standing. Sorry pancreatic cancer, not this time. We fought. I won.

Pancreatic cancer is a killer on the loose. And Purplestride is a way to help stop it.

Every dollar raised goes directly to PanCAN, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network whose mission is to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer by advancing scientific research, building community,
sharing knowledge and advocating for patients. And it’s working.

I’ve been part of a research study for more than 20 years that has been funded in part by monies raised during Purplestride. I’ve seen first-hand the progress that has been made, the results that are being accomplished and the successes they’ve had.

I’m one of them.
