Welcome to "The Purple Hearts of Hoboken" Fundraising Page!

Hi, All,

My team and I are taking steps to end pancreatic cancer at PanCAN PurpleStride on Saturday, April 29, 2023: The Arbors in Parsippany, NJ.

The Purple Hearts of Hoboken team was created in honor of my mother who died in 1999 - the same year PanCAN was founded when the survival rate was only a grim <4%. Today the survival rate has increased to 12% thanks in part to PanCAN working tirelessly to combat pancreatic cancer from all angles including research, patient services, advocacy and community. However, 12% is not acceptable - patients and families are continuing to suffer and don't have time to wait. There's still a lot more work to be done so all patients not only survive, but also thrive.

Here’s where YOU come in! We’ve set an ambitious fundraising goal of $5,000 – because the more money we raise, the bigger impact we make – and would appreciate a gift of any size to help us get there.

Here's how YOU can help us make the biggest impact for patients:

1. JOIN as a team member and start to fundraise, leveraging your network, for our team. Anyone who registers and raises $50 will receive an official PanCAN PurpleStride 2023 T-shirt - that just so happens to match our team's name perfectly with a big heart on the front!

2. DONATE to our team - make a single, impactful, and personal donation.

3. ATTEND a PurpleStride event in your area on April 29th and WALK to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer and PanCAN's tireless efforts to combat such a difficult-to-treat type of cancer. And, have FUN meeting other team members, patients, caregivers and survivors! I promise, you will leave this event feeling happy and full of hope

4. DO all or any combination of the above!

What's behind the name? My parents were raised in Hoboken, NJ and, as the story has been told, were an inseparable "couple" as early as the 1st grade. Both passed away from their respective cancer diagnoses 22 years apart - Mom from pancreatic and Dad from lung cancer. Each had a very different experience with their cancer journey resulting in important lessons learned. This is what ignites my passion for PanCAN to support patients and their families navigate with a centralized, non-biased and free resource to make informed and empowered decisions.

Thank you kindly for your help,

Francine (Team Captain)
