My family and I have participated in the Purple Stride 5K for Pancreatic Awareness run every year since 2012 to honor my dad, Inayat Syed, and his fight against pancreatic cancer. Every year I worry about fundraising/turn out as the years go by, but each year continues to surprise us in keeping my dad's memory alive. This year's race will be on Saturday, April 27th.

My dad was diagnosed with stage 3 pancreatic cancer in July of 2012. He experienced sudden and severe abdominal pain while on a family vacation in India, and by the time he was diagnosed, the cancer had locally advanced to nearby structures. Despite the intense treatments and his unyielding spirit, he passed away six months later on January 20, 2013. We miss him dearly every day.

Unfortunately, my family's experience is just one of many. Pancreatic cancer is often difficult to detect early, and raising awareness is the first step in combating this disease.

We are lucky to continue the tradition this year and plan to be there in person to run/walk as team for my dad as Team Inayat. We invite you to join us, either virtually or in-person, and help us raise awareness and support for this cause. Your donation will go towards funding research for treatments against pancreatic cancer, community support for patients and families, and helping those who are living with the disease.
