Welcome to The Moniz Legacy PanCAN PurpleStride Team Fundraising Page!
Pancreatic cancer has left an indelible mark on our family, and we invite you to join us in taking action to change the course of this deadly disease.
Our dad, Avito Moniz, and our uncle, Fr. Joe Moniz of St Phillip the Apostle Church in Pasadena, both died of pancreatic cancer within a year of each other between September 2023 and 2024. Avito’s Dec 2022 diagnosis came as a shock to all, and we have so much gratitude for the 9 months of memories we created with our dad before his passing (including a bucket list trip to Portugal as a family, including Fr Joe!). We received uncle Joe’s devastating news in August 2024 while in India, together as an extended family in the Moniz Family’s ancestral home in Goa, India. He made it home to Los Angeles and said goodbye to his faithful parishioners and friends from the Los Angeles community he served for over 50 years. Our dad and uncle gave so much of their lives serving their communities, and they’re hopeful that together we can all change the course of pancreatic cancer for others and future generations.
Now here’s how you can take action with us:
Join our team and walk in Avito and Joe’s memories at PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Just click the Register button at the top of this page to get started. Register for free, raise $50 and you’ll receive an official PanCAN PurpleStride 2025 T-shirt!
Support our fundraising efforts and help us reach our ambitious fundraising goal, all in support of patients and families facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis. We’re profoundly grateful for your donation.
