Pancreatic cancer does not stop or slow down, and neither do we! Team O'Day is 11 years strong in the fight and John O'Day is officially a 10 YEAR SURVIVOR!
We are going to help make progress, with your support.
Team O’Day is participating in PanCAN’s PurpleStride with John O’Day leading our way. He has been a fighter and going strong since his diagnosis in October 2014 and this year he made it to the incredible 10 year survivor status! He is walking in his 11th PanCAN 5K! We are so grateful to be able to walk together this year to support and celebrate John, as well as PanCAN. We usually close to brining up the rear of the walk, but certainly not because of John's slow pace. He patiently walks alongside his wife, kids, and grandkids that range in age from less than 1 to 13 years old.
John is the quinticential patriarch of the family that is always ready to lend a helping hand -- from house projects to babysitting, to offering advice and guidance. We celebrate every chance we can to have such a special person in our lives (there are lots of low-sugar cheesecakes and wine shared amongst family and friends!).
John has shown his strength since the beginning of his battle. He pushed through radiation, the Whipple procedure, chemo, and more radiation, all the while still trying to do as much as he could for his family.
PanCan means so much to us because of the support and guidence it provided when we needed information on how to through this trying journey. Monday raised for PanCan supports patients like John and provides free, one-on-one support, personalized information, service and resources that can make a real difference in patients' lives and their families' lives. Patients go through life-changing treatment that forever changes their day to day lives with many patients losing parts of their digestive track and also become diabetic. This changes their diet and nutrition needs and having support to navigate the new territory is extremely important. We personally were thankful for PanCAN's support in helping us to better understand what types of food could help John with weight gain and management of his new diabetes diagnosis after John had most of his pancreas (as well his gallbladder, small intestines and part of his stomach) removed during the Whipple procedure to remove his tumor.
PanCAN's mission is to take action to improve the lives of everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer by advancing scientific research, building community, sharing knowledge and advocating for patients. With research and advocacy efforts, the survival rate has increased from 6% when John was diagnosed in 2014 to 13% this year!
Please help keep the advocacy, research, and support moving in the right direction! I would appreciate a gift of any size to get me one step closer to my fundraising goals!
Thank you for your support.
