My mother, Laila, was truly exceptional. She lived her life with unwavering faith, courage, and kindness. After being diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer in April 2022, she inspired us all, guiding our family through this challenging time and embodying the kind of woman we aspire to be.

Though our mother left us in August 2023, even in her final moments, she taught us that life is about cherishing the moments we have and that love and faith are our guiding lights. Last year, as I navigated my grief and the unexpressed love I held for her, I found strength in my family and friends, who have become my chosen family. Minnu encouraged me to start this team, and although I initially had no intention of raising a specific amount of money, I was truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from everyone around me.

Many friends reached out to share their own experiences with pancreatic cancer—one who lost her father, another who lost her uncle, and yet another who lost their grandmother.

This year, I dedicate our walk to my beloved mother, Laila Verzosa; Reem’s uncle, Abdulaziz Alhashemi; Sundus’s father, and Mustafa’s grandmother. 

May this serve as another way to express our love out loud.
