We are taking the ulitmate steps with PurpleStride to honor our Father (Larry Wolf) and Grandfather's (Harry Reniner and Moe Menachem) who sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer.  We have had front row seats three times too many to this horrible disease and the effects it has over its victims.

This is our second year participating in PurpleStride.  It's cause is very dear to our hearts.  PurpleStride not only helps to find a cure for pancreatic cancer but it helps to aid families who have loved ones battling this disease.

When our Father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer he was asked to participate in a study to see what the correlation was between Ashkenazi Jews and pancreatic cancer.   It was because of this study he found out that he was a carrier of the BRCA2 gene.

Since the BRCA gene is gentic, both my sister and I were tested.  Like our father we both tested positive for the BRCA2 mutation.  With this diagnosis we both underwent prophylactic double mastectomies and oophorectomies to prevent us from getting any cancers associated with the BRCA gene.   We also receive full scan of our pancreas twice a year. Early detection is the best prevention.

Had our Father never enrolled in this study we would never have known how high risk we were for developing pancreatic, breast or ovarian cancer.

While we ultimately could not save our Father's life, he literally saved ours.
