Welcome to the PanCAN PurpleStride for Team Power of Positivity

Our team has significant history with Pancreatic Cancer. Our journey did not begin with me but with my dad Wil Mayrent who died from Pancreatic cancer 35 years ago. There were limited options then and he died 4 1/2 months after being diagnosed.

The journey took a new path in January 2024 when I developed jaundice. We went shopping that day for my daughter’s wedding dress, not being sure I’d make it to her wedding. Fortunately I was one of the lucky ones whose cancer was diagnosed on the early side. However I did run into one complication- my tumor was wrapped around a vein. 35 years ago my tumor would have been inoperable. Thanks to the advances made through pancreatic research and a little extra luck, my surgeon was able to remove my tumor through the use of a nano knife, and I had a successful surgery last July. I realized my dream of seeing my daughter married and dancing at her wedding!

I decided to put together a team to participate in this walk to pay it forward. Cancer not only affects the person who is diagnosed but their whole community- their family, friends and co-workers. Cancer is a tough adversary, but we need to keep finding new ways to fight and beat it. Research is key to successfully challenging this diseases.

We’re taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 26, 2025.

As PurpleStride participants we are raising money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.
