Five years ago, a visit to Kaiser urgent care turned my life upside down. It led to a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest forms of cancer in the world.
While my story had a happy ending and I'm cancer free thanks to the world-class doctors at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, the truth is only 13% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer live more than five years after diagnosis. I want there to be more happy endings so I'm raising money for pancreatic cancer research.
When I was sick and my sister was shuttling me around in a wheelchair, my hair stylist and brother Torrence started walking daily in my honor. When people asked him about his new regimen, he said he was 'walking for Tami' and his walk became known as the 'Tami Walk.'
Today I can walk! And my team – Tami's Team – is taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.
Here’s where you come in!
The more money we raise, the bigger impact we make. Please consider donating. A gift of any size will help patients and families facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Want to help in a bigger way? If you're in the DMV, I'd love for you to join our team and walk with us! Just click the Register button at the top of this page to get started. Register for free! In Step 1 of the registration, select Join an Existing Team and search for Team Tami.
Let’s show everyone impacted by pancreatic cancer that we’re fighting for them – thank you for your support and thank you for being a part of Tami's Team.
