Welcome to the Rich and John team page for the NYC PanCAN PurpleStride!

My sister and I have created teams in our respective cities, in honor of our Uncle Richard, who unfortunately lost his battle with Pancreatic Cancer on April 21, 2024. We are also walking in honor of our late father, John Dong, who passed from Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer in January 2015, after a sudden diagnosis and 1-month battle. 2025 marks the 10-year anniversary since his passing. Both my uncle and dad were role models and staples for the two sides of my family, the epitome of being there for others and being the voice of advice for myself and all my cousins. I will be walking in support of my aunt and cousins, as we were all devastated after the loss of my uncle.

Though not of the same cause, I would be remiss to not mention I am also personally walking in remembrance of my cousin Jeff, who passed away on June 13, 2024 from colorectal cancer, and my uncle Donald who passed in February 24, 2024 from cancer complications. Last year was quite a blur, so much going on with work and family. Thank you for friends and family who shared memories and adventures with me last year, and may not have realized why I was distant.

I invite you to join on April 26th to walk with me as we support PanCan and their efforts to fund Pancreatic Cancer research and advocate for cancer research funding in the USA. Friends, colleagues, and loved ones are all welcome to the Run/Walk event by South Street Seaport, where there are waterfront views and a lot of nearby attractions/activities to check out. I truly appreciate the love and support from my family, friends, and colleagues 10 years ago, who all came out for my mom, sister, and I during a tough time. Last year was another rough year for my immediate family after losing my uncle.
