Pancreatic Cancer Patients Are Counting on You

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I urge you to make pancreatic cancer research a national priority and support federal funding vital to improving outcomes for patients.

Pancreatic cancer is the nation's deadliest cancer. It has the lowest five-year survival rate in the U.S. of all major cancers, at just 9 percent. There is no early detection method. There are few effective treatment options.

We appreciate that Congress has worked in a bipartisan manner to increase medical research funding over the past four years. Federal research funding is critical to accelerating pancreatic cancer discoveries.

On June 25, pancreatic cancer patients, advocates, and researchers will be on Capitol Hill raising awareness and urging Congress to support federal funding for pancreatic cancer research. These advocates represent people like me and thousands of others across the country who have been impacted by this deadly disease. I stand with them and urge you to:

* Support $41.6 billion for the National Institutes of Health in FY 2020, including $6.5 billion for the NCI.

* Support a dedicated pancreatic cancer research program for $10 million in the Department of Defense's Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.

* Join the Congressional Caucus on the Deadliest Cancers to support and raise awareness about the nation's deadliest cancers.

In 2019, an estimated 56,770 Americans are expected to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and approximately 45,750 Americans are expected to die from the disease. Tomorrow's moments depend on today's investments in cancer research. Pancreatic cancer patients are counting on you.

Sincerely,
