Thank You for Prioritizing Medical Research

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I'm thankful that Congress worked in a bipartisan manner and passed an FY20 appropriations package that includes $6 million for a new, dedicated pancreatic cancer research program at the Department of Defense. These research dollars are critical as we push for progress against the world's toughest cancer. Additionally, I am appreciative of the $2.6 billion increase for the National Institutes of Health, which includes a $296 million increase for the National Cancer Institute.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States and has a five-year survival rate of just 9 percent. The pancreatic cancer research field continues to grow, and we have the opportunity to see accelerated progress in creating new treatment options and early detection strategies when Congress prioritizes cancer research.

As someone who has been impacted by pancreatic cancer, I care deeply about the future of pancreatic cancer patients and recognize the critical role the federal government has in funding lifesaving research. Thank you for recognizing the importance of increasing medical research funding at the DoD and the NIH.
