Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's FY 2021 Legislative Priorities

Dear [Decision Maker],

Welcome back to the 116th Congress! I am one of your constituents and a supporter of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). Thank you for working in a bipartisan manner last year to prioritize lifesaving research for pancreatic cancer - the world's toughest cancer.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. While survival rates for many other cancers have improved, the pancreatic cancer five-year survival rate in the U.S. is just 10%.

This year, nearly 58,000 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, more than ever before. There is no early detection method, and there are few effective treatment options for patients.

However, progress for patients is being made thanks in large part to the investment Congress has made to advance the research.

Research funding is key to solving this challenging disease and with 80% of funding for pancreatic cancer research coming from the federal government, you have the power to advance policies that will change the lives of current and future patients.

As my member of Congress, I urge you to support PanCAN's legislative priorities in fiscal year 2021:

1. Make the nation's toughest cancer a priority and provide $10 million for the pancreatic cancer research program at the Department of Defense.

2. Ensure lifesaving medical research continues and support $44.7 billion for NIH, including $6.9 billion for the NCI.

3. Increase awareness of the nation's deadliest cancers and join the Congressional Caucus on the Deadliest Cancers.

I look forward to working with you to improve patient outcomes and to ensure that vital cancer research continues.
