Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's Legislative Asks

Dear [Decision Maker],

As your constituent, I want to welcome you to the 117th Congress. Pancreatic cancer has impacted my life, and I look forward to working with you throughout the year to ensure vital pancreatic cancer research continues to improve patient outcomes.

Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States, and the five- year survival rate is just 10%. In 2021, more than 60,000 Americans will learn they have pancreatic cancer -- that's 166 people diagnosed every day. And over 48,000 Americans are expected to die from the disease.

To increase the pancreatic cancer survival rate, researchers need to learn how to diagnose the disease earlier and treat it more effectively. And federal funding plays a critical role to achieve these goals.

In order to improve patient outcomes and change lives, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network urges the 117th Congress to make pancreatic cancer a national priority in Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 by:

- Investing $20 million in the Pancreatic Cancer Research Program at the DoD to support leading-edge research focused on the disease;
- Funding $46.11 billion for the NIH, with $7.6 billion for the NCI, to advance biomedical knowledge of cancer; and
- Joining the Congressional Caucus on Deadliest Cancers to support the community and raise awareness in Congress for the cancers taking the most American lives.

As a member of Congress, you have the power to advance policies that will improve the lives of current and future pancreatic cancer patients. I urge you to make pancreatic cancer research a national priority in FY22.
