Parking & Public Transit

Survivor/VIP Parking - Spaces will be coned off along FC Greene Memorial Blvd. for Survivors and VIPs.

General Parking - Participants can park along the park roads that are lined with parking spots. Event site will be located just south of the Temple to Music within Roger Williams Park. Note: PurpleStride attendees may NOT park in the Carousel or Botanical parking lots.

Pets

T-SHIRTS

Everyone who registers and raises or self-donates $50 or more by event day will receive the official PanCAN PurpleStride 2024 T-shirt, available for pick up at your event. We’ll do our best to ensure supply and preferred sizes, but T-shirts are subject to availability. We are unable to ship T-shirts after the event.

All pancreatic cancer survivors who register for PurpleStride are eligible to receive a special survivor T-shirt with no fundraising minimum required.

Mike Montecalvo

Mike Montecalvo

Mike Montecalvo is an awarding-winning journalist who co-anchors the 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts on WPRI 12 and the 10 p.m. news on FOX Providence.

A Woonsocket native, Mike is a graduate of La Salle Academy and Rhode Island College. He has been a broadcast journalist in the Rhode Island and Connecticut markets since 1981.

An Emmy Award-winning anchor and reporter, as well as a recipient of two national and three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, Mike’s passion lies within the community through outreach and service. One of his prestigious Edward R. Murrow awards was for his War on Alzheimer’s special that shed light into the darkness of an incurable disease. He was inducted into the Rhode Island Radio and TV Hall of Fame in 2015, the La Salle Academy Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Special Olympics Rhode Island Hall of Fame in 2019.

Mike has received more than 40 community service and Associated Press awards. These include the Charles B. Willard Award for professional achievement, the Communications Department Honor Roll Inductee at Rhode Island College, the Lumen Gentium Award for Communications from the Diocese of Providence, the RI Community Food Bank Leadership Award, the Alzheimer’s Media Award, Meeting Street’s Unsung Heroes Award and its Walter Cryan Award.

Mike is also proud to be part of Prevent Child Abuse Rhode Island that helped make shaken baby syndrome a form of first-degree child abuse under Brendan’s Law. In 2018, Mike was honored as Person of the Year by Accessible RI and the MS Dream Center for his commitment to the Rhode Island community. He was also recognized in 2019 by the Narragansett Council Boy Scouts of America with the North Star Award for his work with Scouting for Food.

Mike has helped raise millions of dollars and awareness for local charities, including the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island, the ALS Association’s Rhode Island chapter, the RI Community Food Bank, Special Olympics Rhode Island, Meeting Street, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Ocean State, the Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island, the MS Society and more. He traveled with Rhode Island Honor Flight, which brings veterans to Washington, D.C., so they can see memorials dedicated to their service, including being nominated for an Emmy Award for the first all-female Honor Flight. Mike has also made thousands of school visits and speaking engagements over the years.

Mike was a longtime parishioner at Saint Anthony Church in Woonsocket, serving on the finance board, as a Lector, CCD teacher, chair of the St. Joseph Feast Dinner Dance, and director of the CYO; he was instrumental in two major capital campaigns for the parish.

A member of numerous organizations, Mike belongs to the Italo-American Club of R.I., the Pannese Society of Rhode Island, and the Greater Providence YMCA. He also served on the board of directors at Saint Rocco School in Johnston, Prevent Child Abuse Rhode Island, the Diabetes Foundation of Rhode Island, the Futures Committee and the Strategic Plan Steering Committee at La Salle Academy. Additionally, Mike has served as honorary chair for countless charity events.

As a member of the media, Mike has covered many big stories, including anchoring live from the Warwick Mall during the Historic Floods of 2010, Hurricanes Gloria and Bob, the 2014 Boston Marathon, local elections, the 2004 World Series, and the Patriots’ 2005 Super Bowl win in Jacksonville. He also reported live from Pope Benedict’s visit to New York in 2008 and Pope Francis’s visit to Philadelphia in 2015. He covered the Station night club fire in 2003 and continues yearly to make sure Rhode Island never forgets this tragedy and the heroic efforts of our first responders. Mike has interviewed many famous celebrities and politicians, including President George W. Bush, former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, NHL Hall of Famer Bobby Orr, actor Kenneth Branagh, and singers Jon Bon Jovi and the late Sergio Franchi.

Over his career, Mike has worked at various stations including 103.7 WRX, B101, 94 WHJY, WHJJ, WKRI, WINY, WWON and WNRI. He also worked at WJAR TV and Cox Communications Channel Three.

Mike is an instructor at Bryant University and the technical advisor to the school’s radio station WJMF, where he was named the 2022 Advisor of the Year. He also taught at New England Institute of Technology. Mike is married and has two daughters. He enjoys spending time with his family, gardening and making homemade wine and limoncello.
