Welcome to Ray's Awareness Fundraising Page!

I can’t even believe that this upcoming PurpleStride will be 10 years since our very first one!  TEN YEARS that my dad has been gone.  It seems like yesterday but also an eternity at the same time.

The photo on the Ray’s Awareness team page was taken just a few days prior to my dad finding out the grave news of having pancreatic cancer.  My parents came to Ft Wayne for the week so Ryan and I could go away to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  I remember my mom calling me before our trip to let me know just how awful dad was feeling.  He thought he was having some sort of gall bladder issue.  They made an appointment first thing that Monday morning to see his primary care physician when we returned from our trip.  I will never forget that call from them after seeing his doctor.  Hearing their fear, worry, shock and loss of hope through the phone.

That is when I dove into all the google searches and research I could find for answers to our countless questions.  We needed treatment options, clinical trials, testimonials and most importantly emotional support.  The information I uncovered about pancreatic cancer was just awful, right at the top of the most fatal cancers.  Not much hope at all.  The only place I did find hope was through PanCan.org.  What a blessing this organization was for our family!

I signed us up the winter of 2011 for our very first PurpleStride taking place that June of 2012.  I was filled with ALL the hope in the world my dad would be able to be with us for our first cancer walk, not only for him to be with others going through a similar battle but for him to continue to be the shining light he has always been throughout his life.  He lost his courageous fight that February of 2012.  His battle was the textbook 4 months that thousands of cancer patients experience after hearing those heart wrenching words, “You have pancreatic cancer.”

Most of the time pancreatic cancer isn’t discovered until the patient is in stage 4.  This is the stage where symptoms are first recognized.  Researchers are working on finding a way for early detection so more pancreatic cancer patients can beat this cancer.  At the time my dad was diagnosed, the survival rate was 6%.  Over the past 10 years, through research and trials funded from all of our donations the survival rate has increased to 10%.

Pancreatic cancer does not stop or slow down, and neither do we!

I’m going to help make progress, with your support.

I’m participating in PanCAN’s PurpleStride, a year-round national movement that funds lifechanging programs and services for pancreatic cancer patients and their families.

Every dollar you give means more patients can benefit from PanCAN’s free, one-on-one support, personalized information, service and resources that can make a real difference in their lives.

Please make a gift of any size to get me one step closer to my fundraising goal and improving more patients’ lives.

Patients and families need us now more than ever.

Thank you for your love and continuous support with Ray's Awareness and the PanCan organization.
