PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer, is back at Soldier Field on April 29, 2023! Great news this year - for the second year in a row, the 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients has increased by one point to 12%. This may not seem like a lot, but just one percentage point increase means 641 more patients will enjoy life with their loved ones five years after their diagnosis. This is thanks to donors like you who have contributed to funding scientific research, better treatments, advocacy for increased Federal funding, and patient support programs provided at no charge from PanCAN.

You probably know that I have been fundraising for PanCAN since 2014 when my brother, Curt, Coach E from Mt. Carmel High School, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. It was a gut punch since my mom died from this same disease more than 30 years earlier. While the increased survival rate news is amazing, it was only in the single digits when Curt died; and not even tracked during my mom's battle with the disease. Our job is not done.

An estimated 64,050 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2023, more people than ever before. Approximately 50,550 Americans are expected to die from the disease this year.

And while pancreatic cancer is currently the 10th most commonly diagnosed cancer in the U.S., it remains the third-leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Pancreatic cancer is on track to become the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths before 2030. So, your generous donation is crucial to continue our work.
