why i STILL stride for greg...

In September 2015, my soulmate and husband, Greg was diagnosed with stage 2B adenocarcinoma pc. He had a successful Whipple surgery to remove the tumor, participated in a clinical trial, and underwent a series of chemotherapy treatments. We were actively involved in working with the SV's PanCan affiliate and PurpleStride activities while our UCSF medical team had helped to keep the cancer at bay for almost 3 years. But in late 2018, the cancer emerged relentlessly and I tragically lost Greg on February 27, 2019.

I will let Greg's words that he wrote on his FB page on this day in October 2017 to explain why we continue to fight for those whose lives have been affected:

"Late 2012 on Kauai. We were walking down this road where they filmed some of the scenes for The Descendants with George Clooney. At the time we were seriously trying to decide which island we wanted to retire to. We love the ocean, the beaches, the weather, the Aloha spirit on every island. But we haven't been back since. Little did we know the pancreatic cancer was already growing. We still dream, but it is tempered with the reality of continued care.

This is one of the terrible consequences of cancer. Dreams put on hold. And I really do mean they're just on hold. Once we're through with this next round of chemo, and I'm again declared NED, it's time to get seriously on with our next visions. Anything is possible and miracles happen every day!

Don't let someone else have to make these life altering decisions. Give what you can and don't forget to press your Representatives and Senators to continue to fund the NIH in the new budget so they can in turn fund cancer research.

Aloha Nui Loa to you all!"   ~ Greg
