Welcome to Our PanCAN PurpleStride Team Fundraising Page!

Hey, there!

My team and I are taking steps to end pancreatic cancer at PanCAN PurpleStride on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Hello! If you're reading this, then welcome to our team!

We are TEAM GALEGO!!!

My name is Tracey Galego Fontes. My Mom, Shirley Galego passed away from pancreatic cancer on May 28, 2004. This year marks 20 years that she has been gone. It seems like it was only yesterday! She was the smartest, strongest, funniest and most loving person around. She was simultaneously a loving Wife, Mother, Grammy, Sister and friend to all!

I have 5 siblings, 2 sisters and 3 brothers, tons of nephews and nieces!!!! We are all very close, that is how my mother always wanted us to be!!!!

I would also like to take this opportunity to also include two dear friends that we have also lost to pancreatic cancer within the past few years, Rosemary Crook-Martino and Debra Pereira!

Rosemary graduated from St. Mary's Bay View Academy, then went on to obtain degrees from Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island. She worked as an educator for over 30 years in the Providence, RI and Roanoke, VA school systems. She had a great love for her students and went to bat for all of them especially the most needy. Many of her students remember her for her kind words and loving attitude.

Rosemary was also a lover of animals and committed to many wildlife causes, most notably the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center of Roanoke. Over the years, she gave a lot of her time to these causes and also to the fostering of over 130 dogs at her home.

Deb worked as a school bus driver for many years and went on to RIPTA as a bus driver for the RIDE program until her retirement in 2019. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many... Deb will be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched over the past sixty-two years.

So on April 27, 2024 we will be participating in Purple Stride Rhode Island in memory of my Mother, Shirley, Rosemary and Deb to make a difference in the trajectory of this disease.

Register today to join Team GALEGO 2024 on event day for a leisurely stroll through Roger Williams Park (Temple of Music) with us!!!!

Please consider making a donation. Every dollar you give means more patients can benefit from PanCAN's free, one-on-one support, personalized information, service and resources that can make a real difference in their lives.

EVERY DOLLAR COUNTS!!!

Your gift can be of any size to get us one step closer to our fundraising goal and improving more patients' lives. There are so many worthy causes to which you could donate. If you choose this one you can be assured it is going to a worthwhile cause. Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate of all major cancers, at just 11%. This is a deadly disease on track to be the second most deadly cancer.

Patients and families need us now more than ever.

Thank you for your love and support!!
