Why did I become a PurpleStride Team Captain?  Us nurses were thrilled when Shirley returned to work after breast cancer.  Shortly thereafter, she was gone again.  This time, cancer of the pancreas.  Pancreatic cancer forced my girlfriend's mom to give up her bed and breakfast, her lifelong dream.  When Kim, my Diabetes Specialist was diagnosed, us nurses HAD to do something.  We started a Nursing Scholarship in her name.  Then another Diabetes colleague was diagnosed.  What is going on?

Annie called to ask if we could postpone my April birthday at her new house as she'd be in the middle of a kitchen renovation.  Sure I said!  I can see you anytime.  A few weeks later, Annie called with her diagnosis.  The one time I hated being a nurse understanding the brevity of what she was saying although muffled through heartache.  Fifteen weeks later, Annie passed away.  That any time, next time never came.   

Our team wants to make the biggest impact on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients – and we need you to do it!

I’ll be taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer, PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 27, 2024.  I'lll have a team walking in Orange County, CA. The beauty of this Walk is we’re walking at the same time in our own neighborhood in most major cities across the USA!  FYI:  there’ll be a Walk in Los Angeles at the Santa Monica Pier and Boise, ID.  If you can walk in OC, I'm having a reception at Newport Coast Marriott where I held her bridal shower.  

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.
