I never thought I would be fighting cancer, let alone at this young of an age. Cancer really is not prevalent in my family and there is no history of pancreatic cancer whatsoever! I always thought of myself as blessed and lucky that I didn’t come from a family with a history of a lot of health problems. Longevity has run in my family and I thought I would experience that too. I still hope that will be true. 

When I learned I had a malignant lesion in the head of my pancreas, my whole world collapsed around me. At least that is what it felt like. But I’m a fighter and I’m stubborn and I’m strong willed. After getting over the initial shock and going through all the emotions that go along with it, I pulled my bootstraps up and got ready to fight.

After several doctors consults, I found my team, my medical warriors! And we started to fight back.  Although there have been some bumps in the road, I have managed my treatment well and am in the downward slide now. Each day I feel more confident and positive. I will beat this and I will survive!!

I have had an amazing support group of friends and (some) family throughout all of this and I am forever grateful for each and every one of you. Your support, caring and love has helped me immensely. Those of you who have texted, emailed, called, visited, sent me cards and meals have no idea how those actions on your part have made me feel loved and cared for and have brightened my days. I need you all now more than ever. And I need your help to make a difference in the world of pancreatic cancer.

I am taking steps at the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer by joining  PanCAN PurpleStride, on Saturday, April 27, 2024.  My team is the PanCan Crusaders for Danita! And I want my team to make the biggest impact it can on the lives of pancreatic cancer patients. 

PurpleStride participants raise money to fund vital research that can bring new treatment options to patients; free, personalized, one-to-one support through PanCAN Patient Services; and more.

I’ve set an ambitious fundraising goal – because the more money we raise, the bigger impact we make – and I would be profoundly grateful for your donation. A gift of any size will help patients and families facing a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
